Our next meeting August 12
Woohoo - we're back
Woohoo - we're back
At long last we will meet again in our club rooms - it has been a long time coming. This will be our first live competition evening in such a long time but unfortunately has had to be restricted to DPI's only. The subject for the evening is 'Low Key' - our definition is 'A low-key image is one that contains predominantly dark tones and colours. Like high-key images, low-key photography conveys atmosphere and mood. But where a high-key image feels airy and light, a low-key is usually dramatic and full of mystery. And where high-key lighting over-lights the subject to reduce contrast, low-key lighting creates striking contrasts through reduced lighting. Shadows are now the primary element of the composition'.
Our doors will open at 6.45 pm, our meeting will commence at 7.15 and judging will start at 7.30 pm.
We are so looking forward to seeing you all again.
And don't forget - your images for our September comp 'Leading Lines' will need to be uploaded to MPC before midnight August 12.

Covid 19 Requirements for our meeting
We are required by CIBC to conform to the current requirements for meetings and gatherings of people and we have submitted a plan to them to advise the steps we will be taking for the protection of our members.
Upon arrival you will firstly be asked to use the sanitiser provided at the entry, you will then be asked to sign the attendance register.
The room has been rearranged to comply with social distancing requirements - all seats will be 1.5 meters apart, so unless you are a couple you are asked to not move the chairs around.
Supper will be provided for you as usual, but not sadly at the normal delicious standard. Supper will be served from the servery and you will have to serve yourself. No one is permitted to enter the kitchen. A garbage bin will be in the room which is where you are to put all your used cups, spoons, plates etc.
Before the meeting closes you will be provided with a disposable sanitised cloth which you will then use to wipe over your chair before stacking it against the wall.
We thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

The Presidents Trophy 2020
It's on again and this year Gerry has decided that the subject for the trophy will be as follows... “I will be looking for an image of a single bloom, can be taken in the garden or in the bush even as a table top image. Don’t hold back. Use selective focus, use shading to control the light if in direct sunlight, may use a flash and reflectors, you could use material behind the flower of a complimentary colour to enhance the bloom, you could use textures over the flower, you could even use ICM. There are many examples that are to be found on the net, one to look at is Kathleen Clemons, she is good.“ Gerry Gibson |
Traditionally this is a print competition with members invited to submit a maximum of two entries.

OUR MARYBOROUGH TRIP
Planning is well underway for our Maryborough trip at the end of August. The official dates are from August 27 th until 31 st . But I can tell you some will be there earlier and some staying on a little longer. I have been working on an itinerary and I will tell you more about that as time goes by. However, there is no need to conform, you can do what you want. The only item firmly set on the agenda is a whale watching cruise. As we move out of lockdown there is a very real possibility these will book out quickly, particularly if the border is re-opened soon. Places I’m researching include the Story Bank, the birthplace of PL Travers, creator of Mary Poppins, the Military and Colonial History museums, the Bond Store Museum, the Customs House Interpretive Centre, Brennan & Geraghty’s store, the Time Canon and the Mary Ann, a truly unique steam locomotive. There’s also beautiful parks and gardens and so much wonderful colonial architecture. Photographic opportunities abound. There may even be a day trip to a magical mystery tunnel for those staying a little longer. Members and partners are most welcome. You don’t need to be a photographer, there’ll be plenty of socialising in the mix. At the time of writing we have 19 members and partners book in with 11 booked for the whale watching trip which will be on the morning of Friday 28 th . There will be a sunrise photo opportunity over Urangan Pier for those who wish to get out of bed a little earlier. If you would like to join us please book your accommodation and then let me know where you are staying, your arrival and departure dates and if you’d like to do the whale watching cruise. Huntsville Caravan Park is our main accommodation destination. The park is on the Mary river and has a hotel and shops close by. When I last checked there was 1 brand new Queen Cabin with Ensuite coming online and available for booking. Caravan and camping sites are still available. For those who have missed out on a cabin, the Minerals Sands Motel is 1 minute by car and 13 minutes on foot away from the Park. One member is booked in at the Wallace Motel so that is another choice. We would love to see you there. Don’t forget, when you book please let me know: Where you are booked, Arrival and departure dates, Are you interested in a half day whale cruise? Cheers, Greg - [email protected] |
Some Quick Lightroom Tips for you
Double-click to zero sliders: To quickly and precisely reset any adjustment in the Develop module, double-click on a slider and it will automatically reset to the default position.
Double-click on panel titles to reset sections: To reset entire sections of adjustment sliders in the Develop module, double-click on the section heading. Easy!
- Click & drag the Histogram to adjust each luminance: Hover your cursor over the desired luminance section of the Histogram (blacks, highlights, shadows, etc.) and then click and drag to the left or right to adjust each luminance.
- Adjust sliders with your keyboard arrows: You can easily move adjustment sliders up and down by placing your mouse cursor over any of the sliders in the Develop module and then using the up and down arrows on your keyboard. You can also hold Shift + up/down arrows to move the sliders in greater increments.
- Convert any slider to a black & white mask using the 'Alt' key: Holding down the 'Alt' key while adjusting any slider instantly converts the image to a black and white mask.
- Hit the "J" key for highlight and shadow clipping: Hitting the J key on your keyboard displays areas in the photo where shadows or highlights have lost detail. Highlight clipping shows up in red, and shadow clipping is displayed in blue.
These tips come to you from Contrastly.
Some of them work in ACR too.
