The Brisbane Outing
The morning of our outing to Brisbane dawned bright and sunny and after downing coffee at Northshore Hamilton ferry wharf we were on our way down the Brisbane River to the city. Mega thanks go to Geoff East, who is actually a history buff, for drawing up the route and providing us with maps and detailed info of the buildings he planned for us to visit. We all learned so much from his intimate knowledge of Brisbane. One of the hightlights was being invited into St Stephens Cathedral, which was closed to the public. We were allowed full access to wander at leisure, we were then taken across the courtyard to the Chapel for another private viewing.
As we ran out of time to complete the full itinerary Geoff and Di prepared, we decided we are just going to have to do it again.
Maybe next time you will join us?

REMINDER
Entries for our August competition, 'Noir' close at 11.59 pm on July 14. We would hate you to miss it. The definition for 'Noir' is... 'Noir is the French word for black. Noir is characterised by moody, dark and dramatic images that look straight out of a crime scene filmed in the 60's. The images are emotive and have a highly specific look to them in lighting, contrast and composition.' |
Our Share Night With Barry Cheeseman
LIGHT, LIFE, LUCK.
Well Barry had it all and much more. For those who were not able to attend, I think the rest of us would say you missed out on a great presentation. Barry is no stranger to the Photography world and his experiences have been awesome. Many of our members have already had the opportunity of meeting him in his professional capacity. Some have been to Vietnam with him and judging by his photos what an experience that would have been. His Portrait photography was amazing and I’m sure we all went away with lots of inspiration and took on board the many tips that were given. |

The Project
Building on the experience of our 2019 “Project” we are now looking for members who are interested in working cooperatively in a small group to further their photographic experience. In broad terms we are seeking to explore Pure Art Photography, with a view to creating a gallery exhibition of our collective works by June 2022. Initially a suggested bi-monthly meeting schedule is envisaged, but the group may decide on a different schedule is necessary for reasons of its own. The brief will be developed by the group as the project evolves, however some initial thoughts are as follows:
Pure Art Photography
Not an image you change in Photoshop, but an image that you can use Photoshop to explain it’s being.
It may use minimalism, it may be b&w, it may be colour, it may be from a table top studio, it may be none of these.
It will not be a busy image.
It will be artistic.
Please let me know your interest by email, [email protected]

Back in 2019 some of our members bought some gear from him, maybe one or more of our members may be interested now. Read what is on offer here.
APS Photobook Awards
The APS Photobook Awards 2021 includes two categories: “Portfolio” and “Storytelling”.
Entries in the Portfolio category should reflect an overarching theme or concept that is explored through the artist’s choice of images. Entries in the Storytelling category will typically follow a story line illustrated by the artist’s choice of images and their sequencing. A photobook may fit into either category if, for example, it presents thematically-related images that tell a story. The author, in such circumstances, may enter the work in either category. Inclusion of text is entirely at the author’s discretion. Judging criteria include excellence and fitness for purpose in photography; selection and sequencing of images; design, layout and typography. The judges may also give weight to originality of concept and design, and an engaging visual narrative.
