Life, Light, Luck
Our June 23 Share Night is all about Portrait Photography and will be presented by Barry Cheeseman.
Barry is no stranger to many of our club members and we have the opportunity of having his expert advice on Portrait Photography. Barry has been recognised as an international Portrait Photographer by many art establishments in countries throughout the world. His photography career spans over a period of twenty-three years and he is an accredited judge of the Photographic Society of Queensland. Some of our members have been to Vietnam with him and are a witness to his capabilities. It is a great honour to have Barry share his knowledge and expertise with us so please support him and come along to our Share Night on June 23 and find out what Light, Life and Luck you will have when the next time you take that special portrait. |
It would be great if you can try to arrive at about 7.00 pm for our regulation Covid 19 sign in,
then Gerry will open the meeting at 7.15 pm and give us an update on whats been happening.
See you there.

REMINDER
Entries for our August competition, 'Noir' close at 11.59 pm on July 14. We would hate you to miss it. The definition for 'Noir' is... 'Noir is the French word for black. Noir is characterised by moody, dark and dramatic images that look straight out of a crime scene filmed in the 60's. The images are emotive and have a highly specific look to them in lighting, contrast and composition.' |
New Members
We have 2 new members. Please welcome John and Denise Organ to our club. John has now been accepted into A Grade and Denise will be in B Grade.

The Project
Building on the experience of our 2019 “Project” we are now looking for members who are interested in working cooperatively in a small group to further their photographic experience. In broad terms we are seeking to explore Pure Art Photography, with a view to creating a gallery exhibition of our collective works by June 2022. Initially a suggested bi-monthly meeting schedule is envisaged, but the group may decide on a different schedule is necessary for reasons of its own. The brief will be developed by the group as the project evolves, however some initial thoughts are as follows:
Pure Art Photography
Not an image you change in Photoshop, but an image that you can use Photoshop to explain it’s being.
It may use minimalism, it may be b&w, it may be colour, it may be from a table top studio, it may be none of these.
It will not be a busy image.
It will be artistic.
Please let me know your interest by email, [email protected]

For those who asked the question - how did Gerry capture this tree?
Pep Ventosa is the photographer who has made popular the technique of walking all around a subject taking photographs, and then combining all the shots in a multi-layered final image. He uses hundreds of shots to create his masterpieces, but you can get started using only 3 or 4 layers. Read all about it here |

APS Photobook Awards
The APS Photobook Awards 2021 includes two categories: “Portfolio” and “Storytelling”.
Entries in the Portfolio category should reflect an overarching theme or concept that is explored through the artist’s choice of images. Entries in the Storytelling category will typically follow a story line illustrated by the artist’s choice of images and their sequencing. A photobook may fit into either category if, for example, it presents thematically-related images that tell a story. The author, in such circumstances, may enter the work in either category. Inclusion of text is entirely at the author’s discretion. Judging criteria include excellence and fitness for purpose in photography; selection and sequencing of images; design, layout and typography. The judges may also give weight to originality of concept and design, and an engaging visual narrative.
