When CCG Did Maryborough
It was fun and games and lots of laughs for all who made it along on the CCG escapade to Maryborough. A mega big thank you to Greg and Gerry who put in hours of research and planning to ensure this excursion was action packed. From the accommodation, the meals and the outings, it was all top notch. Thanks guys, well done. About 20 members and partners made the trip just up the road and among other things ventured out whale watching, travelled on the Mary Ann steam engine, visited Mary Poppins, explored the Portside and immersed themselves in the various museums. And if thats not all, some played ghosts in the cemetery, while others ventured out to Mt Walsh and hiked up to the Waterfall Creek rockpools. There were a few wines shared and a few stories told, but as the saying goes, when it comes to the stories - what was 'told in Maryborough stays in Maryborough'.

Tewantin Shield 2020
Tewantin Shield is an Interclub competition held every year. Caloundra Camera Club puts forward our best images to compete against other clubs. It is a DPI competition.
It has been decided by the committee that in order to give our club the best chance we would be going through all the images that received 7 & 8’s for the last 12 months and submitting those that fit the 4 categories :- PEOPLE, NATURE, PICTORIAL and special subject LOW KEY (which we just saw our members produce some beautiful work!)
PLEASE NOTE IF YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR IMAGES CHOSEN FOR THIS COMPETITION YOU MUST NOTIFY the secretary, otherwise it is assumed that everyone is happy to go ahead. You have till the 18th September as after this time the selection committee will be making their decisions. This is a process that most Camera clubs use, we will now be introducing this process.
This is our last and only external interclub competition for 2020, as COVID restrictions had cancelled most competitions.
We hope you will support our club by letting us submit your images to showcase what a great bunch of photographers we have at CCG.

The Robin Simpson Memorial Award 2020
Now is the time to start thinking about entering this CCG annual competition. This is a DPI competition, open to all grades - the subject is Australian Landscape...more info can be found on MPC or by clicking here Robin Simpson joined CCG in 1998, and passed away in July 2008. On Ted Gillingham's return from the Maleny show one year, on a beautiful day, he found himself along Bald Knob Road looking at a farm which was rich with photographic delights. He wandered down to the door and was greeted by Robin who was more than happy to have Ted wander around her farmland. On his return, Robin, in her usual hospitable way, had a cuppa ready and a brown paper bag containing a selection of photos she had herself taken recently. She asked Ted if he could have a look and see what he thought. As Ted looked at the photos he was amazed, and shaking his head at the quality and beauty from a small point and shoot camera Robin asked “what’s wrong with them?” Ted replied “nothing, they are bloody beautiful” and so began a close and wonderful relationship. |

Come join us on our next outing - this time to.....
Bribie Island Sunday the 11th of October 2020 This will be a day on Bribie Island where we meet for morning tea (or coffee). There we will be divided into teams depending on the number of participants, to compete for Cherry Ripe prizes, making photos in response to the clues given to each team. The first set of clues will have us exploring Woorim where we will meet for lunch, before travelling to Bellara to photograph the answers to more clues before finally finishing off with a shot of an iconic Sunshine Coast view over afternoon tea and heading home, doubtless tired but happy. Contact Gerry for more info or to book. |
The Frank Hurley Photography Awards 2020
Conserving Australia’s Antarctic Heritage
The Frank Hurley Photography Awards is organised and presented by the Mawson’s Huts Foundation Ltd., a registered not for profit charity established in 1997 dedicated to conserving Australia’s most isolated heritage property, the original expedition huts of 1911-14 Australasian Antarctic Expedition (AAE). Situated at Cape Denison in East Antarctica, the buildings, now known as Mawson’s Huts were built by the expedition team and used as their main base for two years. Led by Dr Douglas Mawson (who was later knighted), the team included the 26-year old Frank Hurley as the official photographer, who operated from a tiny 1.2m2 darkroom within the main hut.
Net proceeds from the Frank Hurley Photography Awards will go to support the vital work of helping to conserve Australia’s Antarctic heritage for generations still to come. More info here.

Out from the Mist
This a photography and short movie competition and Queensland supported. All you need is a smart phone to enter (although more upmarket kit is OK too). The competition is about mental illness but is also about so much more. Individuals facing challenges to their mental wellbeing are varied in their experiences and their responses. This competition hopes to capture the breadth of that diversity, from the experiences of pain and suffering, caring and empathy for loved ones, through to the elation of conquering obstacles. All stories are valid and welcome: the competition aims to showcase the strengths and the travails, the joyous moments and the sad, of those who directly or indirectly confront the challenges of mental illness. Entries close September 25. Find out more here: |
